Never done waterproof/epoxy paint either...but ive studied every build thats came through these parts since 06 lol... im a fan of the older style wood/fiberglass builds like Greenterras or Culvermelons(not sure on that spelling lol). Seems newer tanks are being built without proper fiberglassing and or epoxy paint and those r the people that have problems. So if it were my project id stay oldschool and stick to that method of construction. No use reinventing the wheel on a good proven method. Only thing u may need to do different is sand ur acrylic and the waterproof surface a bit before u seal the deal.

After the fiberglass layer comes the epoxy paint or just more resin thats tinted. This part is a bit confusing and usually where people do different things. Some brands of epoxy paint i can name off hand to check out would be: pond armour, sweetwater or max acr. I know the max acr is fairly affordable. Others seal tanks with epoxy/resins from home depot and claim its good/cheap but for once i cant give a personl experience with a product lol... hopefully someone will chime in with some harder facts for you. Ordering resin/epoxy is confusing, theres alot of different options.

Thanks a lot for your help, Russ. This thread and your input has probably saved me hours of sorting through dozens of threads trying to figure out what works!

I'm going to do some more work on this probably this weekend; the next step is building the stand. When I first built the tank, it was intended to sit on the floor in a split level; now I need a stand. C'est la vie I suppose. After I get it up on a stand, I'm going to finish the glassing (started but not finished) and sealing. I debating on having the acrylic professionally buffed; I'll need to ponder that some before I cross that bridge. I am a cheapskate where I can be however, so I don't know.

Anyway, Thanks bro. I'm sure I'll be pestering you some more. I really appreciate it. :)

How bout some pics? Question for both or either- why use pond armour, sweet water or max acr after using epoxy? Is it to hide the color and grain of plywood(and fiberglass mat)? I'm going to do a build soon out of "spare parts" and have been pondering that question for years. I've re-matted and epoxied my surfboards and if done right, the epoxy and fiberglass should be, in itself water proof. Any insight would be great. Hopefully others have this question too so I'm not derailing your thread. Oh yea, post lots of pics!!!
TIA
James
