Windows 7 - what can it do for YOU?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just built a new comp (ATX AM3 mobo, AMD Phenom II X2 3.2GHz CPU, 4 gigs RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU, 1TB SATA HD, 23" LG Full HD LCD monitor with HDTV tuner), and I decided to purchase Win 7 to go with it, rather than bring over Vista from my old computer.

I haven't used Win 7 yet, but my older brother, who's a software engineer, said it blows Vista out of the water, and makes major improvements in functionality, speed, and user friendliness vs. XP. I'll let you know what I think when I get it installed and get to start playing around with it.

Why do so many of our members, when it comes to filtration, once its out on the market it sells like hotcakes.

But when it come to other stuff like computer OS, we are way behind time. W7 was released so long ago!!

For me, I don't like the idea of updating the OS on my computer every time a new version comes out. What it comes with, I'll use until the day it dies. But now that I got a new computer, why not!? XP isn't going anywhere. Even as old as it I still say it has several years to go before people stop using it all together.

From what I've seen W7 is really cool, but XP works very well. And windows is the only option for me. I don't want to have to deal with apple at home and windows at work. often times I have files that I work on my home computer, then use at work, so I need things to be the same.

I know a lot of people say W7 is slow and is resource hog, etc. But to be honest, this thing flies on my computer. Although I've noticed it can use up to 2gb of RAM just idling. No worries, I have plenty to spare :) Thanks for the tips, keep them coming!

Vista is better then XP, 7 is better then Vista

As long as there is still support for it and it runs good... why not. I still have a 98 and a ME(working great)

Every new computer(os) is a resource hog compared to the last one. XP was one to 98... and so on.

My Vista laptop with 2gigs of ram plays most of my games just fine while using aero and sidebar at the same time.

I have 4gigs on my 7 and again use aero and sidebar all the time.

I think the key is each new OS really needs it's own hardware. Just updating the OS on older machines don't work so well.

Example: I installed 7 on an old dell system(p3,1.25 gig of ram) for someone at their request and it would not even allow me to put a wallpaper on it.

What i was trying to say was we cared more about our fish tanks than our computers, ROFL
