Winter Aquarium Temps? How low do you go?

I have 2 300W heaters in my 250 gallon. I keep mine at roughly 82.4-84.2F. I don't allow it to go down as I am ich-phobic.
In some houses I've been in, we had gas and electric. If you have gas, you can heat the water by either removing it from the tank and heating it, or by putting a plastic bag of warmer water (e.g., 120 degrees) at the top of the tank.

I think the most important factor is making sure the temp change is gradual so you don't shock their systems, but if you pull data on the fluctuations in their natural habitat then most people can go lower than they do. Look at how large WC with slightly cooler water can promote breeding because it simulates a large rainfall, seasonal temp changes might be good for them as well because it more closely mimics nature.
76-78 in winter, 73 right after a wc; and 80-82 in summer

The tropics do not fluctuate as much as one may think. Of course there is rain fall ( even teh rain is not cold ) but changes are not so profound.
I never change temps. Water chamfes are more than enough to imitate a showering cold rain....

When I first started keeping fish I had my tank near a window and I like the cold and offten had the window open it would drop a few degrees from 76°. Once I got a stand and moved the tank across the room the temp held steady regardless of if the window was open

Oh I don't change my temperature. Just that turning on heat completely dries me up in winter and California is not that cold...so my room temp in winter is in the low sixties.

I never think about changing temps in the tanks. Ambient temps are different (up to 76 in summer, down to 72 in winter), which makes summer a little cheaper I guess on the tanks. Even when I had them in an unfinished basement, I kept the temps the same.
