rhode island of course
I'm going to be setting up a 120 for christmas time..and the fish in it will be my rtc who is pushing 15 inches...my red devil female...my tiretrack eel, ornate bichir, and polypterus plamas, as well as a male red devil hopefully or perhaps a dovii..not sure on wat else is gonna go in...and I'm gonna put my jd's, firemouths, my smaller palmas, a pike, and in the 30 will go my banjo cats, climbing perch, and leporinus until there larger...so does tht sound like a good idea

Funny LOL. I know you know the RTC will eat most if not all of those cylindrical shaped fish the moment it gets in the tank. plus I know that you know it is overstocked; i just felt like responding. Just the RTC & the devil maybe a pleco. until the RTC gets to big for the tank.

I'm tempted to think that this post is a joke. If not, you're about to get some ehem', 'friendly' advice.

RTC will eat them fish and that is WAY too many fish for that size tank.

120 will be too small for the rtc in about 1 1/2 yrs if u feed it well and the water quality is good.

well the rtc is in with those fish for know..and he has been with them since the begining and he hasnt eaten them yet.....and if you feed your fish the right amount you dont have to worry about them goin afta the little guys just to let you know...and seeing as how the 120 is out of the question and im puttin him in his own tank by himself with just the devils, he is fine..and the 55 will be the home of my smaller firemouths and banjo cats..and i already am buying a 75 for the dempseys and pike so get ya facts straight before you come to these conclusions..and i think i would know my rtc since ive had him for about a year know..so dont start getting cocky cause you think your the grandmaster of all fish...ive been doing this hobby for a while and i know wats goin on in my tanks..and i dont overstock...becasue i have way to much filtration on my tanks..and if you have plants well a tank can self sustain itself if you do it right so im not that worried..

I only see one person getting cocky around here. ;) don't come to the forum and ask "does this sound like a good idea" and not expect to get honest responses.

the fish may be fine together for now because the rtc is only 15" and at that size would have trouble eating any of the cichlids. the bichirs wouldn't be difficult at all for him to eat though so just something to keep in mind.

also, just because the rtc has been with the other fish since the beginning, you're about to move them all to a new tank. when you tank an established community and move them to a new tank then all bets are off and you're starting back over from scratch. fish don't make friendships, they get used to their surroundings. when you put them in new surroundings they have to get used to things all over again. I've seen and heard of many a mated pair of cichlids, which had been together for years, fight to the death when the owner moved them to a new tank. I lost my female Herichthys sp. 'rio salto' that way. actually I didn't even move them to a new tank, I moved the tank (because I moved) and put them back in the same tank, same decor etc but the pair bond was broken the second I netted them out of the tank in the first place.

do what you want but don't be too surprised if you lose a few fish to the rtc. but most importantly, if you come here asking for advice, be prepared to accept that advice. :)

Big cat require big tanks/ponds and they have a problem with tank mates I have kept this pic from one of our members as it sums it up. The filtration required just for one RTC when he get 24" + is large and so are the water changes. As for you tire track eel it will end up as a spaghetti supper I know as a friend of mine has his RTC eat a huge fire Eel they go down head first;) His RTC was about 18" at the time and the fire Eel was 24"

If you are serious, That tank will be so incredibly overstocked i dont know where to begin.

First, a 120 will be nowhere near big enough for a RTC. I personally dont think anyone other than zoo's should own one of these. That tank is also too small for a dovii.

second, the eel, all the bichirs, and the pike will either be beaten to death or eaten my the rtc and the CA cichlids. A red devil greatly limits what you can have in the tank, and if you want a pair, I suggest they are the only fish in the tank, unless you insust on keeping that RTC.

Third, Your Jd's and firemouths will beat up the less agressive fish for territory, as opposed to the devil(s) which would just kill everything.

You are seriously overestimating the size of the tank, 120 is not that big. Certainly not big enough for the fish you mentioned.
