Winter storm in Tennessee

Hello; A few years ago the power was off for three days during winter. I had gone to low density stocking some time before and feel this was a reason no fish were lost. I managed to kep the house in the low 50's F. There were no working filters or bubblers during the outage. The tank temps got low and the fish survived that. I did nothing for the tanks such as water changes or battery air pumps. I did not feed during the outage.
I still follow a low stocking density in my tanks.

Generators are the best back up plan when it comes to outages.

And here in NJ I have your damn Alaskan weather, 1*F at the moment and with wind chills -16*F!

Backup plans are always a must. 3 of 4 return pumps are wired to UPS's which will net me about 6-9 hours of run time that take over automatically when the power shuts off, which should be enough time for me to get my generator out and run extension cords when the ish hits the fan. I even just nabbed a backup backup 2 stroke generator if things really get bad. Only puts out 1000watts running which is good for 4 tanks pumps and cycling heaters.

Temperature control! I've started buying backup heaters also. Recently with temps so low if my home heating system shuts down my heaters will not maintain the temperature I need in a 50* or less room.

Strange weather indeed. Here in Denver it has been in the 60's...in February !! Grass has started growing. Weather in the 100s with high humidity in Denver in the summer ?

When I turned my car on this morning the thermometer on the dash read one degree and I heard a news report of a woman who must have slipped and fell in her driveway and froze to death before she was found by anyone.

Appears that the northeast US is getting all of Canada's cold and snow. I would like the Canucks to please take it back lol

The only blessing so far, for my area anyway, is that all the snow has been light and fluffy, and not that wet, heavy snow that is backbreaking to shovel and causes power outages.

It was a Whopping -40 Celsius with the wind chill factor last night in Toronto . My mustache began to freeze and all of my windows had ice build up on the inside , it was i believe the coldest day on record for February 15th in Toronto.
