Could I keep bowfin and sturgeon in my pond over winter if I keep the pond from freezing over. It gets well bellow freezing but I use a heater and have plenty of flowing water. Its 4' at the deepest. They're going to be liveing with several koi and lmb. There are some aquatic plants that live through the winter in the bottom of the pond.

That's an combo of fish, I hope its a really big pond.

Depending on sizes you may be missing a few fish in the spring, but it won't be as a result of weather conditions.

Its a 22' by 12' pond in my back yard, 1' deep to 4' deep. I dont have the fish yet, I'm just asking if it would work. I'm starting it all in the spring, so it should be up and running with fish by fall. I have 3 8" koi and a 5" lmb that live in a preformed pond with lots of plants. I'm getting the rest soon, unless its not a good mix. Plenty of filtration and lots of plants.

So can I keep sterlets, koi, yellow perch and channel cats in my pond over winter? My parents say that i cant keep lmb or bowfin in the pond because they are large predators. I'm also going to be putting a few livebearers in the bog filter every spring, so the perch can have some snacks throughout the summer.
