with bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i read somewhere that plecs sometimes suck on the bichir

I have an ornate in with my bruno, adonis, and a few commons. They've lived together for a few years, no problems.

It is hit and miss, in exactly the same way it is with rays. You'll have people warning you off, saying don't do it it's a bad idea. This can be proved by a lot of peoples experience. However, on the reverse side of the coin, there are people who mix them and suffer no problems. I'm cautious, am i'm not big on mixing them, I tried it a long while ago, and unfortunately it didn't work out for me. IMO uttermost caution is needed and a lot of supervision to be safe.

And a lot of luck.

For what kind of algae? In general carnivorous fish and algae eating fish don't go well together. You might consider looking at snails. Ramshorns, apple, mystery, and pond all will do a good job with most algaes.

I have Royal pleco with 6 bichirs for 6 month.. no problem.. some times it gets on the bichir, but move on very quickly

what other algae eating fish would you recommend?

Can't think of any that at all. Ottos would be eaten. Flagtails, you'll probably have the same problem. Wyldfya had it right with snails i think. Theres always an algea scrubber, but that might be too much effort :grinno:
If i was going to try it with a pleco, i'd try it with a royal, if you had the space.
