Fungus. Good luck.

Also think about its original cause vs the symptoms you treat....

You had a fish die of columnaris recently? I'd wager a bet that you're looking at it spreading. It's present in most aquariums, but healthy fish can keep it in check. If their immune system is compromised the bacteria can take off, and can whipe an entire tank.

If you've more than one tank, wash your hands like a surgeon after messing with that tank, and don't transfer any equipment around.
I treated my outbreak with kanaplex, and so far it has worked well (stopped fish from dying that hadn't yet shown serious symptoms,) but it's only been a month.

Fortunately my Conjag with columnaris recovered and is doing great. Unfortunately my Wolf Fish died during the night. I didn't realized that it was so contagious, i have another tank full of Conjag fry, but i don't share any equipment with them. But will make sure to really disinfect my hands if I am going to be working on both. I am assuming I should continue the amoxicillin treatment as well as the Pimafix as a precautionary measure. Because from what I understood, even if the remaining fish are not showing symptoms, that does not mean that the infection is not there. Am I doing a lot of damage to my ben. bacteria with the amoxicillin?

Amoxicillin won't completley wipe out the good bacteria but it may affect it. I would dose prime along with the antibiotics to help with any spikes that could occur. After treatment you could also add some tetra safestart to help replace any bacteria that may have been affected. Hope this helps!! Don't want to see anything happen to those conjags!! 😀

Good call...and don't worry, your babies are in another tank, lol. But yes, I would hate to see the parents get sick!

I do 40% water changes 2 times a week. Sometime 50-60%. I think I might be overdoing it and hurting my bacteria and their immune systems. Either way, I just did a 50% water change.

Do you use water condition to remove chlorine? If you don't, or use less than the recommended dosage, t could be the problem. Make sure the dosage base on the total tank volume/tank size, and not base on the amount of water change

I use prime and dose it for the whole tank size. Sometimes i use a higher dose because Los Angeles uses chloramines in their tap water. I used to use API water conditioner, but it did not help neutralize ammonia like Prime does.
