Frozen silverslides, Talapia fillet, and market shrimp for starters, might even take pellets but def. stay away from land based meats. Fish can't digest the fats. Also stay away from Cyprinids like goldfish they have vitamin inhibiting enzyemes. A VERY secure lid will be needed - they can jump outta tanks whenever possible. My Mala is very active - I use very low light 20" 15w in a 75 gal. A cave or large piece of driftwood he can lay in would be appreciated. Growth rates for 4 -12" are fast like in 4-5 months, real easy fish to raise IMO once you get the "secure lid" thing worked out.
