Wolf Fish I.D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's look like a mala to me. Also, many sellers or LFS out there trying to sell a mala for lac price, so if you paid at mala price then it's not a lac :)
Sellers knew exactly where the fish collected location so it's depend on them honest about their live stock and their customers or just trying to rip customer money off. :p

I ink it was me that said that, tyler_aquarium(spelling?) on YouTube? If so maybe it was the food in his mouth lol, his jaw lines are much closer now and not parallel like lac. But it has the high back, maybe it's those iguazas? I'd like to see what DB thinks, since he has one and is more knowledgable than myself. Maybe my eyes are deceiving me. The body shape is throwing me off. Nice fish regardless imo

Ya he was 20 at around an inch from aquascapeonline. Moe214 thought maybe it was a different specie so might as well make a post and ask.

Intermedius have only been imported and confirmed into the U.S. Once I believe so highly doubtful, nor does it look like the confirmed one imo. The Iguaza are in the mala group as far as I know but have been reports of up to lacs size and the have lacerdae shape as well. There's many theories of it due to mala and lac being found in the area as well. Possibly hybrid or a new species. But I guess yours is a mala, still a wonderful fish, I've always had one in any tank I've kept once I found out about them and have had pleasant experiences.

It's mala for sure just likely from a different collection area and the reason it looks different (sp Iguaza that moe mentioned). There are 3 different groups of mala that were also ID'd from previous science trips but no official names given except those named after rivers.

I'll see if I can get permission to post a pic of a real intermedius from an old owner.

I'm sure intermedius has been brought into the US but no one has been able to identify them or just think they are plain old lazy wolves. They get mixed in there when collected as they are difficult to ID and ur not really looking for them in particular.
