It is a 100% "Hoplias malabaricus". They are kinda inactive and mostly lie in a corner all day long, you should feed at night and try to make it used to dead foods, if it don't accept it take out a shrimp/fish fillet and knot it to a wire (im a swede hope you understand) and make it look like its alive in the tank, he will learn to accept that sooner or later. You don't need a large aquarium I'd say you are good with a 120cm long aquarium, 300 litre. If you feed it living food you will never be able to have this monster with another fish, I tried with a Syn. Eupterus that was like 2" longer and much fatter and it went straight ahead and bit it. Luckily I was there to get it out before it had another bite cause the "Hoplias malabaricus" would have torn the Synodontis into pieces (for real).
Excellent fish, and BTW you need much filtration but they dont need extra air pumps etc.

Hey tuda thanks for the I.D. and the helpful info!! This thing eats like an RTC!!! Has shown no aggression towards any tankmates yet. Not even to a 4 inch pike cichlid that i have with it and the wolf is close to 8 inches lol!! thanks again!!

It really surprises me, you must have a really nice Wolffish then cause most ppl I've talked to confirmes that they can't house the wolf with any other fish. BTW: If you only feed with living fish the wolf suffers to stunt in growth and only become a strong 12-13".. they grow much bigger with:
*water changes twice a week
*Good filtration
*Varied food such as Shrimp, fish fillets, Krill etc..Have seen some eating frogs but that is not good.
*Big enough tank, they swim alot if they are homestead. they become 60cm if taken well care of so they need atleast 120cm long tank, bigger is better.

Yea i guess so...my first wolf started attacking tankmates the first day i got it!! Well my buddy said it was attacking all his fish and killed some but he also had it in like a 20 gallon tank. This could be why since it is now in a 125. I do a 50% water change one a week, very overfiltered, eating feeders for now til i get it onto prepared, and in a 125 like i said so i think it'll be ok for a while. its fairly active for a wolf. Doesnt swim alot but it more active then most... Thanks tuda!!!

Thats awsome! Im gonna try some more tankmates and see if it works out. Gotta keep an eye on the wolf though since i heard that wolf fish will be ok with tankmates for a long time then one day just snap and kill everything...

Welcome to the pack

"Hoplias malabaricus". deffentlty i have one its at 13inches now and its no joke...only fish im nerv about putting my hand near. Since Sept ( when I got him at 4") No other fish can live with him...taking up a whole 55g by himself- took me 2 months and maybe 12 pelcos before he stoped attacking them.

One time i had a sabertooth that had to be moved at 3am i place a peice of plexi in the 55g to seperate the two. wedged it with rocks...Next morin the saber had LITTERALY a chunk missing and the plexi was still in place....How I dont know but i will say the saber was 3X the size of the wolf....since i havent deared to place him with any one that wasnt food.

And mine-could never break the live feeders..
good luck
