Wolf Fish ID

if you fish that arent aggressive that wont mess with him, i think they will be fine (unless yours is really really aggressive) but if they are aggressive to your wolf, then game over, that just tipped him off.
Well, they weren’t exactly going at him hard but when he first got in the tank they were all circling him. Arowana was giving him a hard stare down and my Dat was trying to nip at his tail. It just makes me nervous because they’re like my babies I’d be devastated if something were to happen to them over a fish I just bought when they’ve been in my care for a while now

It's hard to say. Nothing is definite and it depends on the temperament of your fish. With that being said I've honestly never owned a wolf that was a true killer as everyone said. All my wolves, even aimara, I've been able to keep with tankmates the same size and bigger with. The true issue comes with multiple wolves ime. Also, to differentiate between a mala and lac is pretty clear. You don't have to take the fish out of the water, just get a rough underjaw shot while it's in the tank. If it's a lac you should notice the jaw folds are parallel and if mala they will touch.

That’s what I figured. I know it usually does come down to individuals. But the only wolf fish I’ve ever kept was a rainbow wolf and he was a sweetheart. However, it’s very discouraging to look online and find no pictures of a Mala with other fish as well as I didn’t quite understand I was buying a mala when I bought him, he was just labelled as “wolffish” which could’ve meant anything. I’ve had him in a sump chamber for the night, I think I’ll check what he is and put him back in the DT soon. Thanks for all your help man you’ve been great

If you want to give it a try, I'd recommend next time while doing a water change move around all the tank ornaments and whatnot so that any established territory gets undone and then introduce the wolf. I'd probably dim the lights to get the wolf comfortable and from there keep a close eyeon the tank. A lot of mala wolves are shy and like to hide (except feeding time) also, so if you have a hiding spot he'd probably hang out there all day anyways. Best of luck and keep us posted!

He had a little jumping incident today. From the sump that was filled up only half way. Crazy fish. Put him back into general population because he deserves it.

Just an update. Now that he’s in the main dt, he hasn’t touched anyone and it’s really just a big log in the tank. Very lazy! Glad I took a chance on him.
