oh,and hoplias malabaricus grow about an inch per month until 12 inches then slow down.
ive heard 2 inches per month and ive heard less than an inch per month.
it depends on the variants as well.

I'm kinda interested in the behavior of the xingu black species, and are they a variant of mala's, lacerdae, or what? Is the macrophthalmus really an aimara? I've read that there are 9 hoplias species but the only one people are really familiar with are mala's (because of their availability). Have any of you tried to breed your wolve's? I've read that some were successful with their mala's but I haven't heard of anyone having success with gold and rainbow wolves.

I dont really know much about the behavior of the xingu black, although there was a guy who had one on here, and it was def. a glassbanger(had a vid on youtube). But people on here have owned Lacerdaes, and a maybe one or two have been BLESSED enough to own an Aimara. And for the most part they are an aggressive fish, of course their are exceptions. I believe Channarox was talking about someone breeding wolves in another thread, but it was malas, not ery ery or gold wolves. Im not sure how many people actually try it, doesnt seem as popular as other species when it comes to breeding. Come to think of it there are vids on youtube and the guy had bred his and had fry and showed video of them as they grew. Might be able to contact him.....

they are not a variant.
they are a yet undescribed species.
they are more closely related to the malabaricus complex than any of the other species.
the most common would be common wolves and red wolves.
quite a few also have gold wolves and lacerdaes as well as the black wolves.
as far as i know, very few, less than 10,have hoplias aimara and microlepis.
as for the other species,no idea.
quite a few people have bred them.
i came close once but had to get rid of them unfortunately.
i also tried another time with 3 juvies but actually had to sell them off cause they werent growing fast enough and couldnt compete with the other fish, mainly the barras, for food and were always picked at.
as far as i know,no one has bred ery ery or the gold wolves.
i tried breeding ery ery on numerous occasions.
but i never got any spawns and sometimes it would end in death with only the dominant left.
the ery ery are much more aggressive towards each other than gold or commons.

i know of at least two who have had their wolves breed a few times from another forum.
one from france and one from america.
very few try it because it takes a lot of time and effort to get a pair.
and some fear the aggression of wolves so do not dare keep several together.
but once you get a pair, theyre pretty easy to breed.
they will breed every few weeks.
they actually fan and guard their young up to a certain point, much like cichlids.
the young are extremely canabalistic, which is why most spawns drop from several hundred,to several individuals.
only the strongest will survive.
