THE GARDEN STATE
I'm going to set up another tank real soon. And i want to get 1 monster for it. I want a killing machine. A snakehead is out of the question unless anybody has one for me. i have been looking at several wolfish lately. what will they max out at? are they as mean as they look? Any info would be great. thanks  :SaiyanSmi :mr-t:

I have a hoplias. Got him around 6 inches. He started off skittish and nervous, rarely ate in front of me.

He's around 8 inches now and fat. And he's just turning into a killer. He nails any feeder I put in, regardless of the time of day. He used to only eat in the middle of the night. He's becoming increasingly aggressive. He's more fun now.

But a word of warning, he's still a very inactive fish. Strictly a lurking predator. Just sits there like a turd with teeth all day, then just kills something when you put it in.

I was looking into getting one of these also but i can't find much info. From what i have found there are several hoplias that seem to get about 16''-20''. Then there is the rainbow variety(they have yellow and red i think) wich i can't remember the scientific name of but they only get to be around 9''-14''.

As for the activity I have gotten several conflicting experiences. Some seem to sit like turds while others seem to become more active.

Anyway GL and if anyone knows where to get one in seattle a pm or email would be sweet.

LOL just remembered it the scientific name for the rainbow is Erythrinus erythrinus I think.

the common wolf fish is hoplias malabaricus grows to about 20".. the rainbow or red fin wolf fish is the erythrinus erythrinus, they only grow to about 8"

they say the the rainbow wolf fish are more active but generally wolf fish are sedentary fish and would most likely just stay motionless until feeding time, they are great killing machines though ;)

Joel - theyre pretty sedentary as they said. If you want a killing machine , a wolf fish wont impress you. Get a huge Rhom instead. :)
