i'm not sure what species of wolf it is. so what is the most common species in the trade? what would be the minimum and best setups be for a wolf? thanks

The most common would probably be a hoplias malabaricus. When full grown they should be housed in a minimum of 75 gallons for a single specimen. Sources on websites said a minimum of 125 gallons but honestly when i use to keep wolves, which i had for about 3 years they never passed 11 inch mark nor have i ever seen a common wolf thats 18 inches. Also, their very inactive fish, only time they are somewhat active is during feeding time. Sometimes they won't even eat in front of you. To some its a disappointing fish but i didn't mind.

just make sure there are hiding places and caves for him. You will prob not see him that much though.

i have heard this from so many, but for some reason, mine sits on top of a fake tree, which is the highest point in the tank which has no hiding what so ever. and he sleeps there over looking his tank and the 10 gal next to his.

he is crazy i quess

what is said above is true, but they swim alot at night around 3am. if u sneek in there he will be very veyr active swimming around . more swimming then most fish i have seen, but they only swim for maybe 2 hours lol

i've got one at 16in that just chills out in the middle of the tank. 75gl is too small for fish his size. i wouldn't keep him in anything under a standard 120gl.

The erynthrius(red wolf) is also fairly common and would not require as large of a tank. The mala or common wolf may need a larger setup if you plan on adding other fish or keeping him for a while

I have always thought these guys were cool...but its not really worth the space for one fish, is it? Especially one that you cant really interact with?
