WOLF FISH SKIN CRACKING OPEN?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Adding salt could easily dehydrate him and kill him within minutes. Remember his primary defense is now GONE. Anything you do to his water, you're doing directly to his liver, too. So no meds, and no salt unless you're 1000000% sure that his system requires dehydration.

holy crap that looks painful. I remember when i got a pickerel shipped in the mail and he had bad fungus, looks very bad like that and he ended up not making it. I hope someone can give you some good advice.

Yeah, I know nobody was beating up on him. When we moved him to the new tank the part that ultimately peeled off got darker in color. Then, after the trauma of the "new" tank cracking and draining out completely (yes, a 370g DISASTER!!!) a couple weeks ago, we moved everybody (including him) back to the 125g and that's when I noticed his skin was peeling.

Oh! Everybody seems to be leaving him alone, as he basically stays under a large rock by himself (what he always has done), other than the occasional visit from his friend, a Perruno Cat. He has been totally healthy for over a year since we got him. It actually looks like a thin film of 'skin' has begun to grow back.

I have added quite a bit of salt, mostly because some of the other fish were sick and are recovering from a bad fungus and bacterial infection as a result of the tank disaster.

The wolf doesn't seem to react at all to anything I do. He just seems like he's just conserving energy and letting himself heal. He doesn't seem to move unless he needs to. Breathing isn't labored, just shallow.

I guess it's time to do some deeper reading on the fish. Maybe move him to his own hospital tank? Although the stress of catching him and moving him might worsen the condition... thoughts???

sorry, can't help, i just want you to know that i'm praying for your fish.

Hey thanks! That's awesome.

Yeah, there unfortunately isn't a lot of reading material online for these fish. If anybody has some knowledge to offer it will be appreciated.

I've read they can handle salinity and have even been found in brackish water.

My big question is: Will his skin/scales grow back??? (Assuming he lives long enough to let them).
