Wolf Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have seen in people's sigs that they have wolf fish in smaller tanks, and I was just wondering if they were just growing them out or what...
I keep 3 wolfs with a few convicts, JDs etc in a 30g. But they are all smallish.

Quite a few dealers in BsAs keep SALungfish in tanks that are shorter than the fish. People think it is OK because SALs don't swim. Big mistake! SALs are nocturnal. I kept one in a 135g and when it swam, it easily needed all of the space. The same applies to wolffish.

Wolffish can live in dirty water so it would likely survive and grow quite large in a 35g but sometimes wolffish like to swim and doing that they hop around like crazy. So more than anything a grown wolf would break a 35g. It would have to do so to even turn around. Wolfs turn in one single abrupt movement. You'd need something like a 1/2" thick glass and a metallic frame to prevent a wolf from breaking such a small tank.

Then, if you consider how much they eat, the water in a 35g will get so dirty, you might not even be able to see your fish. You'd have to throw the food from 2' height or you'd be risking your fingers.

So a 35g should work up to about 8 months.

Keep the lid on! Four of my wolffish jumped to their deaths.

I cant believe how some of you guys answered this thread, remember we are supposed to be helping people, not attacking them.So instead of being a keyboard tough guy,try helping this person out.:banhim:

I have a 9" wolf in a 55 gal with a large Oscar and pacu. This senario is only temporary, but the wolf is fine with his tankmates. He only attacks hands! In answer to your question, this wolf more than doubled in size inside of two months. So your 35gal won't be home for long.
