i'm in the process of importing one through a vendor here for myself

KRS how can you tell its not a lacerdae? Not saying your wrong but George was sure he was. And i do have a mala in the same tank with him and he looks much different. Once i get him in my main tank i can take some better pics for you.

There are a ton of different varients of wolffish, just like PBass, along with different species. There are many threads about the differences between all the wolves. I used to own a lacerdae that was shipped in from Japan. If you do a search, I'm sure you can find pics of him. Anyways, some of the quickest identifiers is that lacerdae don't usually have a dark stripe along their lateral line. They also have a much more blotched pattern on their body, as opposed to the mala's and aimara's chevron type pattern (>>>> along the body). They also have smaller teeth, a different jaw structure, and they have 4 larger teeth near the back of their mouth on the bottom jaw, as opposed to the mala's 2. Lacerdae are more closely related to aimara, while the black wolves are more closely related to malas. My lacerdae grew from 5-18 inches in about 1 year. Malas don't grow nearly as fast. I'm sure if you do a search, on this forum or the other, you'll come up with a lot of information.

KRS everything you said about smaller teeth, jawline are the things that i saw to be diffrent from my mala. The pic was the first day he was put in his new tank with a black backround and black stone he went from very gold and blotchy to a much darker color. Not only that the camera made him turn darker yet (stress). My pics are not the best no flash. All i ask is give him some time in his new tank and id him then with some better pics. And by the way did searches before i bought him and have seen yours very nice wolf.:D

Thanks. I know you said that there is a difference between this wolf and the one you already have, but the variation between malas is so wide. That's why there were issues IDing wolves before, because the same species can look completely different from one another depending on which region it was from. Post some pics and I'll tell you for sure. Take a picture of under his chin.
