Wolf in a community?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He still hasn't touched his tank mates. I need to get him feeding like he used to now. I've not seen him eat yet. I think he needs to get used to a deeper tank.

Should be ok. Just keep an eye on those fish that's smaller than him. If he's hungry, he may go after them, not because of aggression issue, but hunger issue.

When my Mala was approx. 12" I put him in a 180 w/ a breeding pair of downright nasty Red Terrors @ 12" and 8", my Mala went right after them and was pretty much relentless for approx. 30 min. then kinda cooled out however the next morning he owned the tank. The terrors hung at the surface in a far corner. I actually thought it was gonna be the other way around - Terrors would have him in a cave but nope. Back then the Mala wasn't anywhere near as robust as he is now @ 16" - he's like the size and girth of my forearm. I will admit tho -all he really did was chase them - no injuries - but I'm pretty sure if the cichlids tried to lip lock'em they'd be missing thier lower jaws esp. now at his size.

Had a very similar experience myself. My situation was in a 125g that my Wolf had grown from 7" or so to around 12" (est.). Seemed like one day she just decided that she wanted the tank. Within a week she had 90% of the tank. The other 10% was occupied by an 8" Kofferi (nasty as hell), 10" Tiger Oscar, 10" Pacu. No one got killed (I moved stuff around and brought the Pacu to an environmental center, which was going to happen anyway), but the stress level was WAY high for a few days.
She left my two 5" Spotted Raphaels alone though. Seem to actually like them. Go figure.

Good Luck!

Matt
