hey i need some help with wolffish varieties what are the different kinds their temperments and sizes?

At the momment I only know about 3 species, but something about wolf fish is that there all generaly the same when it comes to aggrestion. They will bite you, no matter who you are but with much patients some have been able to get them to eat from their owners hands. For tank mates, you want to get fish the are to huge to swallow and/or being chewed up.

Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus/Aimara 16"

Hoplias malabaricus/Trahira (this is one of the largest I know of reaching 30"+)

Hoplias sp. "Shuyo" 12"

And P.S. This might be removed since wolfs are not an ancient fish.

Sorry man but Aimara is Hoplias Aimara and they reach 4 feet+..

Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus is a Gold Wolf and I think they reach 16-18", they are very active as well..

Hoplias malabaricus reach's 24"+, pretty inactive for most people..

Erythrinus erythrinus - 8", pretty active as well (known as Red High Fin Wolf Fish)

There are a lot of others but these are the most talked about ones.. I let someone a little more knowledgeable fill in the holes.. Also do a search..

hoplias,
hoplias malabaricus 4 feet (expensive and rare)
hoplias malabaricus 20 inches plus
hoplias sp. black 18 inches plus?
hoplias microlepis around 15 inches (only a few people own)
hoplias lacerdae 3 to 4 feet
size also depends on where they are from.
there are a few other species but none that you will likely find.
others,
hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus 18 inches
erythrinus erythrinus 8 to 10 inches
the two most active wolves you'll find.

There are also many many varients of each fish which even further broadens the scope of aggression, behavior, max sizes, and appearance. You have much research to do my friend. I'd narrow it down to which species and then look into which varient you are after.

Oh, and I think hoplias microlepis only maxes out around 12" or so.

yeah i was looking at a gold what would be minimum tank size for just 1?
