Wolves and cichlids?

What are your guys experiences with hoplias malabaricus and cichlids? I got a 4.5" jack Dempsey today just to kind of test the waters of how my wolf would accept tank mates. Besides some gill puffing and the wolf accreting it's dominance things have been kind of mellow.

i havent kept mala but big balzani geophagus do well with my red wolf, IME it has to be twice as large as it would be to be eaten so the bigger the better
 
The jd has been hanging around the middle mostly the wolf doesn't let him settle on the bottom. Every time the jd try's to the wolf comes and puffs up.

The JD should be fine provided that it can't fit it its mouth. JD's can be aggressive sometimes but if it is not a cichlid it most likely will not care either. How big is your wolf?
 
About 10" the jd seems to be doing alright for now.

so the JD is done growing for the most part. I bet they will have a very long period of peace, that is until the wolf gets very big.
 
The wolf is 10" the jd is 4.5". I had to move the jd to a 15 I had in my closet. The wolf attacked the jd tore up its fun a little and left a good bite mark on the jds side.
