I just don't get it. Women usually have a soft spot for animals. I have NEVER met a woman who doesn't like fish but I keep seeing posts with statements about wifey's contempt for your tanks or entire threads on how to make her satisfied in order to keep you hobby at all.

Even if they didn't LOVE fish it seems like they would choose to be thankful that it was fulfilling to you and enhances your life in turn making them happier by not having to deal with a husband who is an *******.

I am a woman...So, maybe my perception on this is skewed but
Is this really that common of a problem?

Usually women are against anything that takes men's attention away from them. Specially other women, but unfortunately also fish and other pets.

hmmm...that's just illogical. At least the fish keep you at home. you could be at the strip club.

No way! Most women i know don't want 100% attention from their spouse/boyfriend, anymore than they want to give it....unless they are still in high school, of course. So far it seems like there are a lot of supportive women here on MFK...for the few that aren't, well, poor guy.

My GF loves the tanks. She won't do any work with them, but loves looking at them. I think the women that do't really like them are the ones worried about:

a) space
b) $$$$

mostly B.

Amen to that honey. I need lots of space otherwise I get very depressed because the relationship seems stale. IMO distance is one of the most things in a marriage. It helps me not want to kill him. I love that my hubby has hobbies that enrich his life because all that time apart gives us plenty to talk about when we are together.

Nothing worse than sitting in a room with someone unable to say anything because you have spent so much time together that anything you would talk about is irrelevant because they experienced it with you.

You got a point there, Im going with that on my next argument with my GF

i dont get it either, i love my fish and have turned everyone iv been with since keeping fish on to them as well.
when i sold up my best mate (female) bought my tank and now has all the highs and lows of which she laughed at me for having fish.
like if one dies she gets really upset. she wants to take a 6hour drive just to see a fish shop. we have fish shop shopping days out. all that...which she used to think was hilarious and that i had know life....which was kinda true. but fish r a passion.
my ex thought i spent more time with the fish than i did with her, but at the time there was something wrong with my tank and not only would i b upset if i lost the fish, it would also have been a LOT of money down the drain.

i have always excepted my partners passions/hobbies...within reason though. when u are actually soending ALL your time on it then it starts to take away ur life and thats not fair on people around u.
