Wondering about growth rates

Well the thing is their growth rate is gonna vary depending on how much they're fed, water quality, age of the fish, and other factors.

You may have a fish that doesn't appear to grow at all and then it will suddenly have a large growth spurt. They're not necessarily growing gradually at a certain defined pace per day. Problem is you don't know when that growth spurt is going to be, so trying to estimate about whether other fish will outgrow them or not is kind of a gamble.
The only reason I can pretty much guarantee the JD will outgrow the dat is because of how fast JD's grow. There's a CHANCE your dat could keep up with the JD depending on when the dat has a growth spurt, but it's not a guarantee. Not something I would feel comfortable saying "Oh, it will definately be ok" or "it will definately not be ok", because it could go either way.
