hi, im just wondering whats up with my cichlids mouth or neck well im just wondering whats up her mouth is very weird looking i cant really get a pic but i did get a very good look at her mouth, it seems like theres somthing in there i dont think she sick or anything but it looks liketiny black balls in her mouth im thinking its babies but i never heard of a cichlid hold her young in her mouth, sry for the joice of words idk what else to call them cuz thats what they are.

also if its babies how long does she carry them cuz she seems to always be this way and all the other babies are around 1.5" now and i havnt seen any mating between her and the male, one more thing sense this has started she hasnt been eating as much well almost not at all but she looks healthy.
"Malawi" is a relatively vague description (post a pic here for an id). Generally though most malawi cichlids are mouthbrooders, females carry (or hold) the eggs/fry from 21 upwards to 31+ days (depending on conditions, like other large cichlids in terms of possible predators, hiding spots, etc..) and release the free swimming fry afterwards. During this time the female doesn't eat at all (though I've had holding fish grab a pellet or two before), and that is normal, they won't die from starvation.
You might also look into either separating her to her own qt tank, where she can release the fry safely or stripping her, usually safe around day 17-18. That's if you want to save the fry.

I can take a pic but it would be crappy, but she is blue with black line on both side and iv had her about 1.5 to 2 years. she has had this throat thing for several months and if i was to quess maybe 3 to 4 but i didnt see this before when the other fry where born but i quess now with all the little babies she cant hide them and i have a 29 in cycle right now its been up for about a week now need to test that saturday to see how all is going.
These guys and gals in this forum are very good at IDing African Cichlids - even with crappy pics - worth a shot I think.
