I began my DIY stand using wood screw but read that we should use deck screw. Is there any difference between the two screws besides deck screws being coated? The rep at Home Depot said i should be fine using the #10 3" wood screws.

if so, i will go buy some deck screws to finish rest of project. I am still in the early stages of the project so purchasing the deck screw shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks,

I think the only difference is deck screws have a waterproofing of sorts to help prevent them from rusting, where as normal wood screws don't. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks guys... i assumed the only difference was the coating. I'll stick with the wood screw and just apply wood fill and apply waterproof paint.

The frame work should be mounted together tonight once i get off work. i will begin a thread on it but still new to this thread posting. I'm not even sure i know how to upload photos. LOL

May I add this, aside from being coated and rustproof deck screws are much stronger than reg. wood screws meaning the head doesn't break off easily like the regular ones. If you're using pine 2x4s you should be ok with reg. wood screws.

Thanks littlewangzfan.... I'm going to buy some deck screws after all since the wood screws are running out. i'm using douglas fir 2x4.
