Same here. Stands should be built so that there is no load on the screws at all. The screws only function is to hold the wood in place, so that the wood itself can carry the load.
Screws probably aren't even necessary. Think about the oldest structures in the world. They'd join the wood, stone, or marble together using just a hammer, chisel, and some ingenuity.
