Guys what are your thoughts on keeping a 300 gal 96x30 on a wood stand/cabinet ?

Tank is being made by midwest customs.

Is it safe or should i go with a metal stand ?

I would email them for the specific warranty info for the tank.its possible that an improper stand would void your warranty.IMO I would go with steel for that much weight

My 72x30 is on wood and feel confident a 96x30 will be fine. My stand is heavy, probably twice as much as the tank. Guessing a steel stand would be lighter and you can always skin it with something once installed.

Thats exactly what they said...the wood would be fine. Just wanted to see what you guys thought

Assuming the stand is sufficiently made, I think wood is fine. Having said this, I changed my mind and went with weld steel, powder coated stand. We wrapped it later once all plumbing was done.

If your tank is acrylic even better in terms of weight.

Congrats on the new setup Frank. Are you building it or having it done? If I was going to pay someone to build it, I think I would go with steel. I have complete confidence that a well built wooden stand would be fine though.

Thats what i was thinking of doing...wraping the stand later on but will see what the wife likes in terms of wood stands and compare the price. Yes its acrylic

Considering the cost of the tank, sump, equipment and all things related the metal stand and made wood wrap was more than what I was willing to spend at one time. My tank builder had a guy build the metal stand, and my bro-in-law helped with the wrap. We aren't carpenters but I was happy with our results LOL.

What's more, we did it in such a way that it could be totally removed if needed. No drilling or screws, and the pieces locked together like a puzzle. It was his design and quite clever in my humble opinion. My point here is that you can always hold off and try the wrap down the road. It can be as plain or decorative that meets your style.
