Not to say I "know" my big oscar, but that big oscar has shared companionship with all sorts of other fish in the 3 years I have had him. "Placid" is his name and I am very proud of him, so I can not bare to get rid of him. He is pushing a lil' over 14" now and has never done anything to anyone except the occasional feeder fish. Call me crazy, but this oscar knows me and will swim to the side of the tank to say hello every morning and evening. I am not at all concerned about it being a threat to anything bigger than a feeder.

I agree oscar are smart. I'm keeping afew myself too and they do recongnise me during feeding time.:D

which store in SA did you go to ?

I went to a place called "Awana Pets" for the black arowana. The store is under recent new management. Nice little place he has a pretty good selection of fish too for a small petstore. He wants to expand his inventory even more.

If you don't mind to travel, City Pets in Houston has a huge fesh/salt selection and has many silver arowana of different sizes and a dozen what they call "gold' arowana but I think they are jardiinis, as I speak. Prices are reasonable too (10" silver $49)...(4-6" jardini like $85...i think?) The only thing is that they stay so busy with customers you feel like a number in there more than a valued customer. They have the biggest plecos I have ever seen offered for sale too. Not that I care anyways...
