Super stoked I caught 18 new 1 inch baby gars over the weekend as future inhabitants of of our 75 or hopefully 150 we want to replace the 75 with this summer. They all surprisingly have made it through the move home and are eating well. I will have to release some into a private pond as our tank will not support that many but they wont make the move to the big tank for a month or two as they need to grow some first. The gar we have now started at the same size roughly and now after about a year is approx 14 inches and both beautiful and amazing to watch.

wow, some pics would be nice

I will try to get some pics they are so small at this point it is hard. An update I counted at least 16 of the 18 that I brought home have made it. They have grown this past week from about an inch to close to two inches. At this point they are hard to identify I believe they are long nose however I am not good at all at identifying them other than they are gar. I catch them wild. We released our pike that I brought home last year that had grown from about 2 inches to about 15 or 16 inches. I found a large Private pond/ small private lake and spoke to the owners and they were happy to have the new occupant to help ever so slightly thin the bluegill heard.

If I could catch Florida Gar or something similar around here... I'd have a tank dedicated to them. awesome story and good luck with them.

congrats on the new catches, must be awesome to be able to just go out and catch gars, good luck! and as everyone's been bugging, pics would be nice--

Still working on pics guys and I could give all kinds of excuses but I will be honest I keep forgetting to do so when I have time. An update though I have had to go catch Minnows every 2 to 3 days and some are eating better than others and growing much faster. So fast in fact that a couple of the gars that hadn't eaten as heavily became dinner. Out of the 18 I originally brought home I think there are about 10 left several were lost to wounds inflicted by the other pike hitting anything that brushed their noses a couple were also eaten by fellow pike fry (talk about weird to watch when I saw it and there were plenty of properly sized minnows in the tank at the time too). some have grown to close to 3 inches already and all are over 2 inches. If they keep Growing at this pace I expect to be able to move them to the 75 gal in the next couple weeks maybe ass soon as this coming weekend.

Oh and when I say catch minnows I mean I bring home 75 to 100 or more 1/2 to 1 inch minnows every 2 to 3 days and they wipe them out usually in less than 48 hrs.

Are they pike or gar?
