Wanted to share this to stress in importance of quarantining your fish. Little over 2 weeks ago I got a coupon for 25% off my purchase at one of the large chain stores. At the store I did all the normal things I checked all the tanks for dead or sick fish and only saw one tank that some of the fish didn't look right but I asked about if the tanks where linked and was told they where in sections and the section I was looking at wasn't linked to the questionable tank.

So I bought 3 angels and 4 BN pleco albino long fin, I put every one in a quarantine tank just to be safe. After 2 or 3 days one of the BN pleco died but everyone else looked fine, over the weekend I found the 3 other plecos dead and one of the angels had some kind of fungus that I didn't see on the BN plecos but with the color maybe I didn't notice. Put started treating for fungal but might be too late. Now waiting to see if the last 2 die.

This fish purchase was $30 and while it sucks to throw away $30 if I would have put them in my normal tanks I could have lost all my fish which would have been much worse.

I'm not going to name the store because I don't feel it is there fault, I have bought from other chain stores and have had the same issues. I feel the fault lies with the breeder and supplier of the fish, poor healthy fish from the start.

On the same topic I bought 2 green terrors the same day from a different store and those now have the symptoms as the angels. Not sure I caused the transfer or even if it is related, but treating everyone hoping they make it.

Doesn't the chain store have a 2 weeks guarantee?

That's a lot of fish dropping dead, I suspect there's something off with your qt set up or water quality/parameter issue

Thank you for sharing the experience with us. Are you not able to take the dead fish back to the store for a return or exchange? Not that you would really want their fish again but if you are already treating the others then I think you could go ahead and treat the new ones from the start.

Also, did you have the fish from both LFS in the same quarantine tank?

I didn't take the first fish back because I assumed it was just a 1 time thing. But after the lose of the others over the weekend I'm out of the 2 week window.

If I can get lucky and save the angels it will won't be a total lose so that is good.

On the water parameters I have been keeping both angels and BN pleco for over a year no issues. I know every tank won't be the same but should be pretty close and shouldn't be enough to cause the deaths that quick.

On keeping them in the same quarantine tank no I have 4 tanks up and running to keep them all quarantined apart. I also bought fire mouths and convict cichilds the same weekend and they are doing great.

Good idea for quarantine =)
I would love to setup quarantine tanks when I get my other tanks but I only plan on keeping a few cichlids (sev pair probably) so unnecessary
