I still don't understand the over-negativity with this team. It sucks that we didn't win the title, but "owned"?
If they had 1 more starting pitcher and 1 more bullpen guy they proabably would have won the whole thing. Not to mention their manager was junk.

Stacked with All-stars?
There were some good players, but they weren't nearly as good as they could have been. IMHO, if they used all the best players they had, the only player(s) that would have stayed on the team would have been Derek Jeter, and probably Jake Peavy. If all the best players would accept invitations to be on the team, no other teams would even remotely stand a chance. But they don't, for very good reasons. Mainly because the World Classic means almost nothing. Sure, you get pride and glory, but nothing else. Why risk getting injured before the season if the world classic means nothing?
Also, you guys mentioned that players from the US are only in it for the money. I do agree to some extent. However, most players also genuinely enjoy the game. What other reasons would there be to play? Unless I'm going crazy here, most people do their jobs for enjoyment and money. I can't think of any other reasons.
Ultimately, my point is that the US is basically the best in baseball, whether they show it or not. They have the best players and the most talent. They may not have the most drive, but they still have great teams and players. I doubt anyone can deny that.

I agree, "owned" is not quite the way I'd put it. Owned would have been a first round knock out. And yes, manager = junk......

Did you not look at the list? Most of them ARE all stars. You can point out all the guys not playing for the US, but then you have to account for all the players not playing for their respective counties. Pujols, A-Rod, and Manny all come to mind. The Dominican Republic was on line with the US as far as dissapointment. But with those three on the same team as Big Papi, Hanley Ramirez, Aybar, Reyes, Tatis, Tejada, Taveras.....you get the point, different story, different ending. It's not a matter of who didn't play, but rather the guys who did. The risk of getting hurt is no more here than it is in spring training. If they weren't in the classic, they'd be in spring training. Pitchers are at no more risk, and were limited to the number of pitches they could throw by the rules of "the classic". Oh well, what's the point in caring and trying to win when most of your fans apparently don't care anyway.........
