I posted that article a while back. Its a P. brachychura I think. My father in law is from Paraguay and he said he has seen these guys well over 3meters in width!

I can't imagine one that is 3 meters in width, I wonder how big the biggest manta ray gets?

I didnt mean to say 3meters..I meant to say 2meters.

Mantas get HUGE I think 25ft+. Ive personally seen them over 12ft across including a monster that breached just yards off of our transam while fishing in the gulf. Scared the crap out of everyone on the boat!

Did anyone else find it interesting that he caught it using a live piranah as bait? I had always heard that Freshwater Rays are not big fish eaters and prefer shellfish and custaceans.

I'm not exactly sure that he meant that he was using live piranha as bait. The way he worded it in the article said he was using live piranha bait. I was thinking about this and wondered myself if he meant that he was using piranhas or live bait that was normally used when fishing for piranhas.

Good observation though.

He probably caught a Piranha on accident (common) and decided to hack it up and turn it into 'fresh' bait.. works really well from what I understand.

Piranha are the bluegill of the amazon and are often used as bait for several game fish including peacock bass, dorado, payara, and for catfish. And more often then not they are used live!

Cool, good info guys!

there have been a few people try but the problem with these china rays is that they get huge and ambush food rather then pounce so they need a HUGE tank as you can see....
