Tom A. and XXBLWN, I agree with both.....But It is sad to see such an animal in this state.

protect them from who, the fisherman that catches sharks and lets 99% go or the long liner that gets tons of shark bycatch when swordfishing and lets them go dead.

SOOOO that makes it ok to just kill everything you or they catch just for the so called sport of it?

Maybe being surrounded by the ocean has me thinking a little different than most people. If people go out and catch more than they need, kill everything they catch. What good does it do for anyone?
This type of thinking is exactly what has lead to overfishing here in Hawaii. All of the main Hawaiian islands are overfished by this type of person.

I think Tom A. was just making a little point on how far we would go on regulating fishing concerning laws and more tax dollars to the enforcement of such protection. How Far is to Far and when milk is on the floor, how do we prevent it from happening again. I hope this is the point Tom was kinda trying to make......Am I wrong, Tom...

I think some fishermen try to do good, but if you watch the news cast of the guys that caught this shark, I hate to say it, but they sounded totally Red-Neck and Dumb. They had the shark on their yard for 3 days before they allowed the local Bio. Science people take a look at it, only then did it make the news. Sad.....

do you really think that lemon shark is staying still on command. two things wrong with that photo , one ,the guy is leaning on the shark and the shark is not moving, two that shark should be let go in deeper water , it should realize its near water and head for it like crazy. the guy is too close to the toothy part if its still alive... CHOMP

Yeah, alright...so the article, guy who caught it and the people with him are all lieing. :screwy:

wow thats a biggen

I think fisherman care and protect sharks better than most people. I know I do....

I would like to think you are right but I don't agree. Some care, but for all those that care there are just as many who don't. Ever watch the Monster Shark Tournament? Its a full scale slaughter on the largest individuals of the species. Add that to the commercial fishing and the natural vulnarablity of sharks and your asking for trouble. Endangered or not (and some species are) they still need more protection.
