Worlds Largest Freshwater Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Being both a aquarium hobbyist and a die hard fisherman. I can tell you that after all the experience of myself chasing after a lot of big freshwater game fish. White sturgeon comes out on top for freshwater. And no, that is not true at all that White Sturgeon spend half of their life in saltwater. There are a few of other sturgeon species out there which do actually tend to spend their life in saltwater such as the Atlantic Sturgeon and the Beluga. While the White Sturgeon sticks around the delta and populate into large rivers such as the world class famous sturgeon river...The Columbia River and The Fraser River in Canada(which is now illegal to bag any sturgeon out from that river). White Sturgeon can push everything up to 2000lbs and reach at an amazing length of 20ft long. Now tell me, what kind of freshwater fish are capable of reaching the weight and the length? :D

You know, I used to be one of those people that posted up links to previous threads and hinted about the search feature when a topic was repeated, but if you think about it, most topics on this forum have been done at one time or another. If nothing was repeated, this site would be pretty empty. Though the links to previous threads is beneficial to the OP's inquiry, there's no need to bash.

According to fishing-worldrecords.com ------(these are all alledgedly verified)

White Sturgeon 240" / 1832lbs 1 oz
Chinese Paddlefish over 276" / 1102lbs 5oz
Giant FW Stingray 168"diameter / 1322lbs 12oz
Wels 197" / 809lbs 2oz (217" 'unverified')
Mekong Giant Catfish 118" / 645lbs 15oz
Pangasius sanitwongsi 117" / 440lbs 15oz
Brachyplatystoma filamentosum 142" / over 441lbs
Goonch 91" / 297lbs 10oz
Vundu (Heterobranchus) 91" / 200lbs
Alligator Gar 120" / 365lbs (240" 'unverified')
Arapaima 120" / 551lbs 3oz (177"+ 'unverified')

Obviously these records are totally useless, as its already been said that fish are caught and not officially recorded, and also fish just aint as big as they used to be, cos all the big ones have been eaten, and the smaller ones are fished out and not given a chance to get to their potential.
