Worm Farm

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, for updates I can only say that I have lost the population several times. Every now and then I get tons of German Cockroaches and there won't be a single worm after that. It seems that when the table scraps content gets really high the cockroaches move in. When I mix in grass clippings from mowing the lawn, the cockroaches die off and the worms slowly return (seeding helps).

I don't know the optimum pH for the earthworms but I am certain that it plays an important part of the worms die off. So far I have been getting by on dumb luck.

I've been meaning to do this. I have a 55g plastic drum cut in half that I was going to use. I figure it will cut the cost on foods just to have them as treats, and if the population explodes then I'm sure my fish wont mind.

i'm sorry to be so dense here, but can you explain this a little more in depth? you put the compost on top of the pvc and then cover the compost w/ the pillow, or you put the compost on top of the pillow?

when you say "fish food' you're talking about the worms correct? not any of the organics right?

is the pvc meant to drain water out of the bin? water flows down into the slits well enough?

how do worms get into the compost if everything is in a seal container? or do you add them and they reproduce? if you're merely trying to concentrate the worms into one area couldn't you just throw food in the same pile out in the woods enough for the worms to gather there? i'm sorry, fish keeping is still new to me and worm farming is totally off my block. hope you don't mind. thanks for insight and i'm very intrigued.
