One of my cichlids has had a worm in his eye within the last couple of days. Not knowing what it exactly is, I decided to use melafix and pimafix combination during the last couple of days. However, the "worm" is still there. I've tried my best to post a zoomed in picture of his eye and as you can see at the bottom of his eye is a tiny white worm. It wiggles!!! Hopefully you guys can see it.

Any ideas what it might be and how to treat/eliminate it? So far it hasn't grown and my fish is acting normal. Also, my water parameters are normal but I haven't done a WC since the weekend since I started using melafix/pimafix.

Id do a 50% w/c, dose with some aquarium salts and slightly raise the tempature! It should disappear after that!

Thanks for the feedback. The temp right now is @ 84 and used salt over the weekend when I first dosed the tank w/ melafix. The reason I did this in the first place is because I wanted some of his fins/scales to heal. However, I noticed the worm somewhat a day after I did that. I'll do a WC later today and re-dose w/ salt and continue using melafix/pimafix.

Any ideas what it might be? Have you seen this before?

Anybody have any other suggestions?

That seems like a good plan, clean water will help prevent and treat 90% of diseases fish get?! Its more than likely an anchor worm attached to his eye! A salt dip can get rid of it i think? Ive never got them thank god?

If it is an anchor worm, will salt truly fix the problem? Should I also treat with something like jungle's parasite clear?

I have never used or heard of anyone that i know use jungles parasite clear so i cant recommend or condem it?! Id do the w/c like you said, add 1 table spoon of salt for every 5 gallons and leave your temp around the 28 mark like you have it?! See how that helps before you start adding extra chemicals!!

Will do.

I just wanted to post another picture which actually shows the worm much better.

Looks horrible but it should be cleared up in no time, keep us posted on how things go?! Good luck :grinno:

repost in the disease forum. They'll be able to give you some good medications or methods to get rid of it.

I've had very good results with that. Use it in combo with salt and should clear.
