Hi there. Was thinking, are the worms you get at fish and bait shops safe to feed pet fish? not like the green glowing weird ones, just the normal worms. Was going to get a tub this pay day and see if Ellie or the oscar will eat them :)

thanks

should be ok, but wait for a pro to answer, i dont know to much about feeding worms to your fish.

I thought it would be ok as well :) Donno though. I'm nervous about feeding the fish anything except things sold to me by fish shops, but lately have been feeding prawns, cut up fish and stuff lol

worms natures perfect fishfood gut load them first (more nutritious)-Anne

they love worms, just cut em up, make sure not to squeeze their guts out, the grit in the worms is good for digestion and packed with raw minerals, or whole, let them rip them up themselves. They're cheap, full of protein, and fun, great for growth.

how do I gut load them? I know when I use to do crickets for my geckos, there was this gel you fed them, then dusted them with powdered calcium.

thanks all :) Will def get some wormies. I'm so not cutting them though lol. As much as I hate to admit, I am a girl, I do raw fish, chicken, and barely pork, but worms freak me out, so its tweezers and lovely Ellie and Pita can chew or shred themselves. Should be a fun game for Pita. He's a twisted little fish. Ellie may snub them, she seems to like her food dead and delivered to her face lol! Anyone else have a lazy bichir? Though, if its put right in front of your face, why bother hunting down the live stuff when in a few hours breakfast will be by your face again?? Maybe I should cut back and make her work for it? At least though she hasn't eaten any smaller fish, so maybe room service is the way to go lol

is pita the twisted oscar? and, you know whats wierd? i like my food to be dead to!!!

yeah thats Pita (Pain In The *** - as its all he was called for the first few months we were stuck with him :D)

yeah, I like my food in the non-twitching state. Its funny cause everyone said polys were spot on hunters and so on and so forth, and Ellie is just so not bothered. If the prawns aren't within reach she does this swim into the tank and follow me like she's out for revenge, then eats, if there in reach she eats then goes to her cave to sleep lol. Pita will just have everything he thinks he can get. He seems like the kind up for torturing a worm. He tortures me often enough. I've had official complaints about him and had to move him into a tank upstairs!
