Early signs are often undetected, so check your fish for slight belly swelling and decreased appetites.
Here's some good links on cammelanus and treatment:

Apparently the drug of choice for this creature is Levamisole, but this was difficult for a friend of mine to get so alternatives can be an antiparasite food, like Jungle Lab's Anti-Parasite Medicated Fish Food, which contains metronidazole, praziquantel and levamisole. From what I understand this food can be given prophlactically, which is something you may wish to consider.

Ok, Levimasole base needs a acidic PH, Levimasole Hydrochloride can be used at any PH, and is effective for 90 days.

Edited to add: It can be found at most livestock feed stores, and can't be overdosed (when used within reason.)

Liz, here is a link to the thread about the tiny white worms. I have them still but they are clearly different. The red ones just lay on the bottom and barely move.

Thank you for info..but after reading this it was not what my green terror female had..she had thread like worm hanging from her... and we used every kind of treatment for almost a year..she just passed last week even with it all..there were times she was better and then began to eat etc and then just slip back with this thread like thing again..good luck with your mollie.

just an update, I have found medicated food for my fish. My molly is doing well, but my gourami is in bad shape. I don't think she will make it much longer. She was suffering from the stress caused by the nematodes. She has secondary infections but I am not sure if they are bacterial or fungal. Also, she is barely eating and I don't think she will be able to ingest enough of the medication to be worth while. Being a gourami, her intestinal cavity is very small and this causes about 25% of the worms to be hanging outside of her. I am tempted to manually remove them but it is said that this can do more harm due to secondary bacterial infection in the damaged intestinal wall. The worms are anchored with hooks. When the worms die, they will jsut fall out. I found a feed store (hard to do in a big city) that might carry Levamisole Hydrochloride. If not, I found an online livestock vet that sells it for $13. That is a ton better than the $200 that the pharmacy wanted. And get this, both the vet and pharmacy get the same product from the same company that makes it on the same machines.

hmm that sucks. didnt realise they were so hard to vanquish. its cool you tried different things to the worms in the jar. however when you do want to get rid of them, just boil them or something.

boiling is good. Salt works too.

Since my last post, I had manually removed many of the worms from my gourami. It was clear that if I didn't she would never make it. The day following the worm removal, she began to show improvement and started to take food. She no longer keeps her fins clamped down, and she is more like herself. I have ordered the medication and it is due any time now. (I expected it yesterday but hopefully it arrives today).

Here is what and where I bought: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?PGGUID=30e078b2-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5

Also I recently lost a pink convict and swordtail. Both had nematodes but in smaller numbers. They both came from Pet Supermarket, the gourami came from Walmart, and the molly came from Petco. All four were housed in separate tanks and none were on the same filtration system. The only common denominator was the fish food and the central Florida fish wholesalers. Something tells me that it isn't the fish food.

my molly takes like 2 months to give birth. that is why I am setting up a fuge with feeder guppies in it to feed the rest of my fish.
