worms

i have these small white worms in my oscar tank. i had gravel in the tank before but when i saw the worms i changed to sand thinking it would be easier to manage the crap from my fish. i work for a while but the worms came back.

my question is how do i get rid of them? i read you can get a simple bleach solution like very diluted but i dont know how much to put in my 55. or is there some kind of medicine that i can buy

Get some loaches!

It wouild be a riot to watch them tear the substrate apart and grow to the size and shape of a golf balls, eating the worm problem into oblivion.

sounds like you have planaria... stop overfeeding and do more cleanings.. they will go away on their own...

planaria. thats what my friend said and he told me i feed them too much so i stopped feeding them like i was. i would buy like 30 large feeders and they would go throught them in about 3 days. but dam did they grow fast.

as far as the loaches go, wont my oscars eat them? i have 2 oscars that are about 8 inches long and almost a inch and a half thick.

is there any quick fix way to get rid of them? can they grow in the filter as well as the sand/gravel?

You could try siphoning them out.

i slowed down the food, washed the tank out completely and changed the gravel to sand. there are still some planaria worms in the tank, but not as much as i had with the gravel.

so from what i understand, the only way to get rid of them is to let it go, dont feed them as much and make sure i do regular changes to the water and keep the tank clean.

Go Easy!
Planaria wont harm your Oscars and perform a valuable cleaning function. Too much cleaning and substrate agitation will stress your fish for no added benefit. Clean your tank bassed on water conditions, and consider feeding your Oscars less aggressively.

When I kept Oscars I had a firemouth living with them. He ate all the scales and small parts that blew out the Oscars operculum when they were crushing feeders. He grew very fast on that diet and was hilarious to watch, as he flared at the Oscars ocaisionally. Two 10" Oscars and a 6" Firemouth in a 50 gallon no problem...
