I am acquiring a fish that is on a diet of earthworms. So. When I go buy said earthworms, do I have to buy them specifically, or can I buy them live at say (Walmart) and just keep them alive that way? Would I be at risk for diseases or other complications? I would rinse off the poor worm before feeding. Then toss him to his demise. Any suggestions or alarms I should consider?? Let me know!!

yeah i get mine from a baitshop. I rinse and squeeze out the dirt and feed them that way. It is highly unlikely that the worms will carry anything harmful to your fish

I was just going to post a similar thread. I also need to know if there are any pathogens that can be transfered from worm to fish, specifically worms that are composted in manure.

Well hopefully there aren't any problems that can arise. Guess I'm going with Wally world worms. Haha

I feed my worms straight from the can. you can rinse them if your concerned about dirt. I dont think you would give it to your fish daily. just use as an ocasional treat. I dont think worms have a ton of nutrition in them. I could be wrong

Well its not about nutrition really, it's just I'm Going to be weaning a pickerel from live feeders. The dude who is selling him to me says he'll go after earthworms as well. So for a week or so, his diet will be earthworms to keep him comfortable and eating. Then I'm going to try to get him onto bloodworm cubes then pellets. Natives like this can be a pain to wean! Better than feeders though I think.
