Worms

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Amount of worms decreased by a lot, thank god.
I know I’ll eventually have to feed them again, won’t they come back?

I feed once a week now. The situation has seemed to have gotten worse however. Previously the worms were small sized, now I think they have grown to adult size and can be seen throughout my tank ?. Numbers have not dwindled either. They all seem to come out at evening/ night period, when the lights are off. I have stopped feeding by a lot, issue doesn’t seemed to be resolved though.
I’m not in a huge rush to fix this problem cuz the worms are harmless, yes, but quite unsightly

You can be feeding once a month...and still be overfeeding. In the context of encouraging infestations of detritus worms, planaria, etc. the term overfeeding refers to dumping in too much food at one time for the fish to quickly consume; it's the uneaten stuff that results in assorted pests.

And, conversely, you could feed multiple times per day without any problems...as long as the amount being offered is consumed by the fish quickly and completely. Except for predators that are adapted to infrequent large meals, this method is usually better and more natural for the fish.

I'm not going to search through your past posts and pics; but if you do so, and if any of them show food lying around on the bottom, being ignored by the fish...that's your problem.

Never. All the food is always eaten up fast, still begging for more afterwards. I put the servings in a container so i just defrost a container each feeding

What fish are in your tank? You could get a species that looks at those worms as treats…

So did you change your substrate cleaning habits to less since you were feeding less often? Do you just dump the whole container into the tank or do you remove the juices after it has been defrosted?

Not possible… all predatory fish, large bichirs

no substrate. Bare bottom. I soak the frozen foods in water to defrost. The water is then thrown away, so only the frozen foods are being fed. No juices in the water

How often are you cleaning the filter media?
After every water change, which is about once every 5 days.

Pictures below. In the day, very few works. At night, they suddenly all come out in the thousands
