Worried about algae outbreak and something else......

Do you know the quantity of eggs they will produce that wont hatch. Im happy they wont hatch considering i dont have enough algae to sustain these 4 nerite snails. But then again, I dont want a thousand tiny white little dots all over my tank. As far as the wispy things go, if they are hydras, the nerites have wiped them all out :)

Hmmm.. I don't know the quantity of eggs which they lay and how often, sorry. :(

That's funny that the Nerites eat hydra. I see my cherry shrimp bump into hydra and look like they get stung and bug out. hehe

Each snail tends to only lay one batch of about 10~15 egg cases or 'dots' in my experience. These will gradually turn brown and after a month you'll notice the top of the egg case gone! Approximately 2 months later you might notice tiny dot's on the glass again, but these are the baby snails. I bought nerites to counter brown algae problems and introduced them into 3 tanks, 2 of which now have a nice population of babies (the third is covered in egg cases)which tend to go places the adults won't... ie plant leaves! I know it says they only breed in brackish water, but it just goes to show there's always an exception!!

woud you say they have overrun your tank? If so, do you have to worry about feeding them? And also i have 4 adult nerites, do you think they will reproduce too quickly and overrun IF they were successful breeding in freshwater.

No definitely not! They're extremely slow grows, and that's not because of a shortage of food either! lol. They're at the 4mm mark now and haven't really took over the tank but there are alot in there. The adults have since died unfortunately (knocked off the glass onto their backs), so I suppose they could have become a problem with regards over breeding. With regards to feeding them.... well I've usually got some algae for them to go at so no problems here. Hope this helped?
