Worried About My Aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
"I just bought a silver arowana" "yes it should be in a bigger tank but I didn't buy it, it was an accidental gift" Not trying to sound off but come on. You shouldn't have a silver arowana in anything smaller then a 6x3 and it still might outgrow that. unless you decide to have an indoor pond or set up a very large aquarium I'd bring it back or sell it to someone with an adequate home for it.

Ok you guys don't need to talking to him like that he is not here to be scolded he is here for help and that is what this form is for. the fish will come around silvers are easy to stress out but give the guy a break he is hear for help not to be treated like this is his fault and he is no good at keeping fish. No it was not a good idea to move the fish I agree but he needs some cover to hide because he is stressed keep your parameters in check. I have found until about 10 inch they do best in a 90 gallon, smaller tank with cover makes the fish feel more secure. It can take a few weeks for him to start eating. What are you trying to feed right now

OK I put him in a bigger tank with cover

If I were you, the one thing you can do to help an aro get acquainted with its new environment is to lower the water level significantly. I would then raise it a few inches over a few days and keep doing this. It will help him gain confidence and be sure to make sure there are no other fish that can bully him.

Be patient. Some small aro's arrive and feel like they own the place. Some are more timid. If it started swimming to the top, in the old tank, I'd say that was a good sign. Not chomping on pellets newly arrived isn't uncommon.

I'll take for granted you got the water parameters, heat and acclimated all in check. Good luck.

That's like saying a stingray pup needs to go into a 400 gallon... I have a 18 inch arowana in a 180 are you trying to say I don't know what I'm doing?
