Last night I went to do one round of my water changes. I started with my 75 with all my parrots and clowns, and did that. NO problems. I went to my 46 with my colony of baby Frontosa, no bigger that 1 1/2 inches, but most were about an inch or less.( We were growing out till they took over the 75 and we figured out which we were keeping and which were going.) About an hour later I see my largest one swimming at the top. Our favorite because he had seven stripes on one side and 6 on the other. He started twitching and laying down, then died. Then another started doing it. And another. And another. With in five minutes I lost 4, I started scooping them into a bag to go put in my 55, and took those fish in the 55.. and move them with some others that would get along for the night. All my frontosa and severums were now in this tank, slowly dying. I sat and cried watching but couldn't do anything else. I woke up this morning to 4 of the big ones alive and the rest of the 15 my husband scooped out before I woke up.All the severums made it. I don't think I have felt that bad in a long time. I am still crying this morning and just needed to vent. I know my husband is upset because I even killed the red stripe front we had just picked up. I dont know what happened. Why one tank and not both. (god forbid). But I just don't get it. I need to go find some Kleenex now...

thats stinks, sorry to hear about your losses :(

Sorry for your losses:( I had a similar experience not too long ago with some Polys. Did you check the water parameters? It might've been from temperature shock as well.

that sux, sorry to hear. only things i can think of:

- ph shock
- temp shock
- using a garden hose w/o clearing out any water that was left inside of it, allowing chemicals to leech into puddled water and straight into tank

if it makes you feel better i had a even worse night i took my dog out to pee before bed and her and i both got sprayed by a skunk and now i'm gonna stink for the next month

sorry for your losses :(

I checked my params and my ph was at 7.6, the amonia was .25, and to be honest I have the others written down at home, but I can't remember off the top of my head. Nothing was different than how I always do the changes. I get the water from the tub, and use my digital meat thermometer (cleaned) to check the water in the tank, and the water going in the tank. Both between 78-79.

benzjamin13, I'm sorry about your polys. I now know what it feels like.

Aquaman, I feel for your skunk fiasco, tho it did put a much needed smile on my face.

I never thought that I could get so attatched to a damn fish. Even my dog came and sat with me watching.

Here are a few pics of them when they were alive.

A couple of days ago the same thing happened to me and my Frontosa. I lost my Alpha and Beta male Burundi Fronts. I did the water change on all tanks and for some reason these 2 larger ones died???

I have to say that this has been the worst part of my fish keeping experience thus far. Just the ball of ice in my stomach...

Did you ever figure out what happened?
