i left my fish to be kept by my parents and my sister while i was away for school for about a month and when i come home i lost a managuense, a red devil, and my flowerhorn is on the brink...

It is amazing how many stories I have heard like this. Fish keeping is NOT genetic. Let the family feed the cat, but heavens sake, stay away from the fish!
i think i'd be better off not letting anyone touch it for the month then have my parents try to take care of them
ive thought ahead for this kind of thing. My girlfriend has her own tank going great, and she knows how to do water changes. etc etc. My parents kept fish for over 20 years and then had kids, and i still dont trust them as much as i do her. lol.
Sorry for your disaster! I remebre my father, 30 years ago, thinking he was doing an excellent job giving my fish the entire packet of food in one take. Thought they would be ok for the rest of the 15 days..
