Just thinking out loud. I have a five inchish ruby red spilo that I have had fora while. Its in a planted 50g. Its a cool fish, but I never see it. I have done a lot of solo tanks like this, but this is one of the few that I am really not enjoying. Aquascape has some wimple piranhas in (yes I know they are not true piranhas). I am contemplating exchanging back the spilo and getting five wimple. Thoughts?

I was thinking about rbp, but I am really unsure if I can upgrade the tank in the future.

Go for it if you're bored with it. you should have something you enjoy.

I say go for it, for several reasons. 1 like you say.your not happy with the shy fish. 2 you very rarely hear of anyone keeping wimples. 3 wimples should be legal in NY while the fish your currently keeping isn't(without a permit). Wimples will require a different feeding approach though as they're scale eaters. Exodons might be something else for you to think about also.

Charney is actually in NJ is remember correctly but anyway, if you are not happy with the fish you have now and can't setup an other tank then yes go switch it up, check with AS to see how much you can get from the RRS and see if you can find anyone want to buy the RRS from you at the same price as AS would give you or maybe even at a better price.

Mybad it said NY. Gl hope ya find something you like. I'd like to have a group of wimples. They're nice looking, & gotta love that huge lower jaw. But their feeding style isn't for everyone.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the input. I do really need to update my information. I have been in NJ for the last year. The comments on feeding have really caught my attention. I have my RRS on a varied pellet and krill diet. I just assumed I would be able to do the same for the wimple. Is this going to be an issue?

I'm unsure on feeding I know they are scale munchers but wuld think they culd feed on other foods. I may lookinto it as I wuld like a group for my planted tank aswell and they stay small and shoal well.

When they're grown they'll probably accept other foods. But as babies & juvies scales will probably be a major part of their diet. You might get lucky n get em on flakes when they're tiny. & maybe bloodworms, brine shrimp ect as juvies but again they're scale eaters so that might be all they'll accept. You might get em swallowing guppies or small mollies or minnows.
