i have 2 awesome Senegals around 7" and i just got offered a 18" ornate for $100 thats a steal where i live so i want to do it. ive never owned big bichir before so please let me know if my smaller fish will be on the menu
Id say dont risk it if you really like your sens,it may work but its more likely not to.
Obviously every fish is different but i put a 7" endli in my big tank and within an hour my 12" endli had him in his mouth, so it can go wrong, but they were both fine when i took the little one out.
How big is the tank he would be going in?
i have a 14" ornate, 11" palmas, 5" senegalus and 5" delhezhi. the ornate was the last to be added. in my experience the ornate leaves the sen and del alone but constanly bites/bullies my palmas. imo the ornate will cause problems. i am currently torn between keeping the ornate or selling it. THEY ARE BULLIES!
Ive noticed orantes arnt really agressive to other bichirs because I was holding a 3" baby sen for my friend while he was away and it never ate it, infact they swam next to each other all day and night like they were best friends
damn!!!!!! thanks for the link thats pretty clear now. i ended up buying a 5" ornate so i could watch him grow and hes was in my baby fish tank waiting to get alittle bigger and he ate 2 1" oscars a green terror and a convict cichlid in 2 days!!! iver never had a fish eat so much.... thanks for the info everyone.
