would a fluval fx6 work for my 55 gallon oscar tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my oscar is just a baby and i have a aqueon quietflow 55/75 (temporary) and i have a 30" flourescent light

We live by the ocean so our basement floods and i dont think i could put a 90 gallon on the 2nd floor

Do some research on your house, you should have no issues with a 90g tank. Best placement of the tank is parallel to the floor joists and next to an outside wall or near a main support beam. Also you could get a 75g which has the same footprint as a 90g but with 125 lbs less water weight.

Best money to spend right now would be upgrading your filter. I would recommend getting an AC110 and run it along with aqueon filter on your tank. Once you get the 90g or another larger tank you can move the AC110 to that tank alont with adding another filter.

I have to agree with others who recommend a tank upgrade as opposed to an FX5. Your upstairs should handle a 75 gallon and it would be a better use of the money.

not sure why I said parallel:duh: the tank should be placed perpendicular across the floor joists

Unless the 90g is the exact same price as the 75g then that's certainly the best option, a little extra height isn't going to be of benefit for a single oscar in a tank that size. How ever if you could get a 90g that has extra width over the 75g instead of height (no idea if they make such a thing, I'm not familiar with US standard tank sizes) then that would be a worth while upgrade.
