would a RBP be ok in a 30

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
any piranha over 4-5" IMO are not good especially red bellies grow so fast. you can keep red bellies in there until it get to 4-5" if you keep longer then that it will stunt the grow.

also you can only put 1 in there.

75 Gallon Minimum for life. you can have like 3 in a 75 gallon.

my neigbor has had 3 rbp in a 40 breeder and they are all about 5"-7", so i believe for now if you have an rbp it will live in a 30g until it gets larger

that definately stressing the reds out...in that size should be in 75gallon. it may look ok or look big enough for the red bellies but it's not.

minimun gallon would be 20gallon per fish to swim. for large adult piranha 8"or bigger would require 30gallon per fish in order to keep them happy and successfuly growing.

This question has been asked too many times to count. for a single RBP a 30 would be sufficient. But, bigger is ALWAYS better, and for a single fish, I really wouldn't recommend anything less than a 35 gallon.

If it needs a 75 gallon minimum to a single fish for life, there's no way you can suggest a 75 gallon for 3.... Considering the fact that if you need a 4 foot long tank for 1 fish, how on earth are 3 going to be comfortable? Ya know what I mean?

A single pygocentrus nattereri CANNOT live in a 30g for life. Reds can exceed 12" in length in their lifespan. So could you please explain to me how a 12"+ fish can live happy and be able to turn around in a 30g tank?!?

To answer your second part, a 75g tank is sufficient for 3 reds. If it were me, I would only do one (which I have in my 75g). The reason you can do one, or up to 3 is because the width of a 75g tank is 18" which gives a 12"+ fish room to turn around. It also give them 4 feet of length to swim in. Again IMO a 75g is perfect for one red, but you could put 3 (the maximum for a 75g) if you have ample filtration.

Please dont go around telling people to stuff a large fish into a tiny 30g tank.

Since when did I say to "stuff" a 12"+ fish into a 30 gallon?

Did I specifically say "When your red belly reaches 12 inches (or more, since they are capable of it) into a 30 gallon tank"? Nope, didn't, don't even see where it was hinted at.

I've heard of more 10" RBPs, than twelve, and you could get away with a 10"-er in a 30 better than a 12 and up.

Then again, whomever had suggested a 55 for life, must've changed their mind, since this is a number I would personally go with, for 1 fish, for life.

If you want to go perfect for reds, the Amazon River is perfect considering that's their natural habitat.

You give me a call when your p. natteri gets 12"+ lol Most won't get over 10".. The amount that get over 12" are very very minimal. Almost unheard of.

Honestly you could fit upto 4 in a 55g. Although 3 is a better/safer number for 55g. Sure bigger is always better but 55g is the smallest for a small p. natteri shoal. But p. natteri solo don't make good pet fish. They're very skittish when kept alone. But would I put a single RBP in a 30g and be ok with it? yeah. But opinions vary.

red bellies CAN and will get up to 12" I can asure you that i can prove red bellies can get over 12" with proper can.

be careful when you said that..i have to agreed with you if the red bellies are small less then 3-4" in 55gallon. there is no way you can fit 4 full grown adult piranha in 55gallon. even that 75gallon is still to small IMO. in order the keep the happy 125gallon or bigger is good.

remember its not what we want, is what the piranha want. you can put any size in 55gallon for sure, but the question would be are they happy? NOT>>>

red bellies can grow up to 12"plus for sure. if you don't believe me i can prove it.
