Would a snapping turtle grow in a 25 Gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had a 5 gallon tank housing a 1 inch african snapping turtle.......in 1 year it outgrew it, and started living in a 50 gallon rubbermaid (alone).

with no mechanical stuff. 100 percent wc and toothbrush of shell needed weekly though.

Just don't feed it as much...that way you can keep him small forever!

I mean, if you are gonna give him improper care, you might as well go all out!

EDIT: My bad, watching tv....just read that it's only going to be a grow-out. Be careful with that....a 6 inch snapper should still have a good 40 breeder.

The people in this thread arent being clear. The misconception that turtles will grow to the size of their tank comes from people keeping them in small dirty tanks and that will stunt their growth just like a person not eating.

+1 for the kiddie pool idea. They are ultra-messy and a 25 just ain't gonna cut it (even short term). you'll have a very stinky tank and cranky turtle.
